Several months ago I was stuck in the rut of my boring kitchen life when I decided.... that is ENOUGH! ;) So to the internet I went and found hoards of new and yummy recipes! I have had a lot of fun over the past several months making some new concoctions.... some have been keepers and others, well, let's just say that they won't make it to my blog. :) Part of the reason may be that I like to "adjust" recipes as I go...adding or taking away what I think would be best.
Every time I make something new, James has to rate it on a scale of 1-5 (a 1 is, "No thanks, I don't like this." and a 5, "This is a keeper!") and so the following recipes are fours and fives in the Hargett home.
I used chicken breasts sliced down the middle to make them thinner (like she says you can do) and I also used bread crumbs from the can since I didn't have bread. Sliced swiss cheese worked great and was simple and I also made (!!) my own cream of chicken soup to spread on the bottom of my pan. I saw this in a crockpot recipe and thought it looked good - keeping it from being too dry and also adding yummy flavor.
These were a wonderful little surprise! I made my own dough for these, added some garlic salt and used olive oil and a little butter instead of canola. These are a great addition to my recipe box and a special treat.... oh yes, and I renamed them to "Garlic Knots". :)
A nice recipe, though I am not sure why they called it chili (?). Mmm, I used turkey instead of chicken and did it in the crockpot so it could simmer all day. I also added a clove of garlic - now tell me what a soup like this is doing without garlic?! It can only enhance the flavor!
Okay, this is my new ADDICTION! I love, love this recipe! I have never been a huge fan of broccoli but this is so good! I made it just like she did leaving out the pine nuts and basil - but who knows? Maybe it will be even BETTER! Possible? I think not. :) Just make sure that you cook them until just crispy on the ends.... NOT BURNT! They don't taste as wonderful when they are burnt (ehem, speaking from experience!) Now go buy some broccoli and treat yourself!
I come from a family that loves pizza! It is like sacrilege not to have our "Saturday night pizza night." Okay, so maybe not that extreme but needless to say, we all love pizza! Growing up in the Buffalo area, you have a taste for the best but being in a family of 9, it can get expensive to buy it. So, we have been making it for years! I had a great dough recipe (thanks mom!) but have recently found one even better! Yup! If you like to make pizza, try this one if you can't find a good dough... it's great! And make sure you cook it at 500 for 14 minutes (and I like to turn my stone halfway through).
Thanks to my sister who is also on a "new recipe journey", this one is from her. :) It was so good and basically the only thing I did different was blending it before heating it. I didn't want the extra time or hassle of heating, cooling, blending, heating.... so I just skipped the first step! And what made it even better but served with grilled cheese!!!!
Have I said that I like garlic?! If not, let me say it again... I LIKE garlic!!! Now now, not raw, but cooked and in things like bread! Mmmm! And what gets any better than a bread with garlic butter and cheese?! This was so good! It was a special treat for Valentines day and not one I will be making very often unless I want to be exercising 2 hours every day. :) Make sure you eat it right when it comes out of the oven!
Posting all of these great recipes is torture! I am getting hungry and sure could go for one of these right now! Oh me! Talk about yummy! These are so good when they are warm.... just be careful not to eat the whole pan.
Another yummy soup. I wasn't sure what I thought at first but the more I ate it, the more I liked it! Alterations: Added a little salt and pepper, used a whole onion and only 2 garlic, 1 tsp dried thyme and only part of a bag of spinach. Also, mixed the parm in the pot.
This was a great corn bread recipe! Mom wasn't home so I couldn't get hers but found this one online instead. A great addition in my book!
On Sundays we bring food and stay after the morning service. I brought this one time and it was a huge hit! Not only from the comments but also when the pan is scraped clean, you know they liked it. :) Will make this again!
If you are brave enough to make any of these, please leave a comment telling me what you tried and what you thought of it! :)
(Disclaimer: I did not take any of these pictures. Also, if you want the recipe, click on the recipe title.)

Oh wow...that last picture made my mouth water BIG TIME!! I love garlic as well, but it gives me terrible indigestion right now. BUT, I will definitely want to try some of these out! Be thankful your hubby likes you trying new recipes...mine is such a processed food junkie! LOL!!! Get this...I just made home made beef stew yesterday for the first time EVER since we have been married. Did he eat it? No. Did I? OH YES!!! :D Pure yumminess. :)
I know, I am so spoiled because James will eat anything and pretty much likes everything! It sure makes it easy for me! He won't even eat beef stew?! Poor you! :-P That sounds so good to me!
The parmesan knots and the cheesy garlic bread look wonderful. I think i am going to write down the recipe!!! I love garlic bread:) Even better with cheese on it I bet!!!!
